All we learn about Columbus is that in 1492 he sailed the ocean blue. We are taught that he found and explored America but what we don't learn about is what he did to the native people. Columbus first writes in his journal "They do not bear arms, and do not know them for I showed them a sword-they took it by the edge and cut themselves." (Zinn, page 202) Then he writes "They would make fine servants. With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want."
